Chinese Scientists discovers new mineral on the Moon

During the Chang'e-5 mission, Chinese scientists discovered a new mineral on the Moon.

Chinese scientists have named the new mineral changesite-(Y).

This new lunar mineral, which looks quite similar to diamond crystals, has been certified by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA).

Approximately 1731 grams of samples were collected from the Moon by the mission.

On Friday 9th, CNSA and CAEA released a joint announcement about the discovery of rare mineral Changesite-(Y).

Known so far as the sixth lunar mineral, Changesite-(Y) is the first new lunar mineral ever discovered by China.
