Despite their initial expectations, the San Francisco 49ers will be without free safety Jimmie Ward for a longer period of time.

Earlier this month, the veteran free safety sustained a hamstring injury while practicing.
This injury may prevent 49ers safety Jimmie Ward from playing against the Chicago Bears in the 2022 season opener.

Ward is likely to begin the season on short-term injured reserve — according to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.
"Yeah, it was a pretty bad hamstring injury. We'll see over the next couple of weeks how it plays out.”
The Head Coach said:
Ward will be unavailable for the 49ers' first four regular-season games if the transaction is made.
Due to Ward's absence, the Niners signed veteran safety Tashaun Gipson on 22nd Aug.
